Baile Riobaird

Baile Riobaird or Robertstown derives its name from the Anglo-Norman personal name Riobard (Robert), making it literally the "town of Robert." Local historian James Durney proposes the settlement was probably named after Robert Fitzstephen, a Norman baron and younger half-brother of Maurice Fitzgerald, who arrived with the first Norman invaders in 1169.
