Cill Cholgáin

Kilcolgan, meaning 'Colgan's church' in Irish, originated as an early Christian monastery founded by Saint Colga around the year 600. Colga, a monk of the monastery at Iona, migrated to Ireland to establish his own monastic settlement on the shores of what is now Dunkellin Bay.
