Baile an Ridire

Balrothery's Irish name, Baile an Ridire, accurately reflects the medieval imposition of knightly feudal tenure in north Fingal. The place was granted to Anglo-Norman settler Robert de Rosel circa 1171, shortly after Strongbow's invasion, and de Rosel built both the town and castle here, establishing Norman authority in the region.
