Garrán na mBráthar

Garrán na mBráthar derives from 'garrán' (grove) and 'na mBráthar' (of the brothers/friars), reflecting the area's medieval religious significance. Franciscan and Dominican friaries were established in Cork around 1229, and historical sources indicate that friars maintained a chapel in this area called 'Cilleen na Gurranaigh' (The Little Church of the Groves), which eventually became known as '...
