Oileán na Marbh, located off the coast of Carrickfinn in the Templecrone civil parish of Boylagh barony, is an island with a profound and tragic history. Originally named Oileán na Mara (Island of the Sea), the island gradually became known as Oileán na Marbh due to its use as a cillín—a burial ground for unbaptised infants and those excluded from consecrated ground by church doctrine.
