Béal na mBuillí

Béal na mBuillí originates from Béal na Muilleadh (the mouth of the mills), a name recorded in medieval sources including the Annals of Connacht (1411, 1421) and the Annals of Loch Cé (1552). Irish speakers later reinterpreted the homonymic muille (mill) as buille (stroke/blow), possibly influenced by local folklore about battles.
