The Spire of Lloyd was erected in 1791 on the Hill of Lloyd near Kells as a substantial architectural monument standing approximately 30 metres in height. Thomas Taylour, 1st Earl of Bective, commissioned the structure as a memorial to his father, Sir Thomas Taylor.
