Knappogue Castle is a late medieval tower house built in 1467 by Seán Mac Conmara (anglicized MacNamara), son of Síoda Mac Conmara, in the parish of Quin, County Clare. By 1571, the castle had become the principal seat of the MacNamara sept, known as the Earls of West Clancullen, establishing a significant stronghold for this prominent Gaelic Irish family.
