Boyle Abbey

Boyle Abbey was founded in 1161 by the Mac Diarmada family as a Cistercian monastery colonised from Mellifont Abbey. The abbey was not consecrated until 1218 due to the Anglo-Norman invasion and a destructive fire in 1202.
