Kilteel Castle
Castle
Kilteel's origins lie in early medieval ecclesiastical settlement. The site's principal church was founded by or associated with Celé Crist, a bishop of Cenél nEógain who died circa 727. The church lay within the territory of Uí Máel Ruba, a kingdom of the Fothairt Airthir Life. The earliest written reference to the church appears in a papal letter of 1179, naming it 'Cehcheli'.
