Tullykelter derives from the Irish Tulaigh Chealtchair, in which 'tulaigh' refers to a hillock or mound characteristic of the place's elevated location. The castle stands on a hilltop approximately one mile southwest of Monea Castle in the Monea area of County Fermanagh, within the Devenish Civil Parish.
