Robert's Head takes its name from the nearby cove, known in Irish as Cuainín Riobaird, which is named after Sir Thomas Roberts, Bart., who owned the slate quarry at the location. The headland stands south of Robert's Cove, a small coastal inlet situated just over three miles southwest of Cork Harbour's entrance.
