Kilcrea Castle

Kilcrea Castle is a 15th-century tower house and bawn constructed in the mid-1400s by Cormac Laidir MacCarthy, 9th Lord of Muskerry (1411-1494), a prominent Irish Gaelic chieftain. The castle was completed by 1465 and built adjacent to Kilcrea Friary, which Cormac founded for the Observant Franciscans in the same year.
