Dromana Gate originated in 1826 when tenants of the Villiers-Stuart estate erected a temporary wooden and papier-mâché gateway to welcome newlyweds Henry Villiers-Stuart, 1st Lord Stuart de Decies (1803–74), and Theresia Pauline Ott of Vienna home from their Brighton honeymoon.
