Tullow Castle stands in the townland of Tullow in County Tipperary, situated at the base of a high hill. According to local tradition preserved in the Schools Collection from Templetouhy, the castle was built by the Irish in early times as a stronghold against Norman forces. Local folklore records that a man called Mac James owned the castle and fought against Norman incursions into the region....
